An informal committee of people interested in coordinating issues on peace, social justice and environmental sustainability has formed at James Reeb UUC in Madison, WI.
Several PJS have for years organized a regular day to provide a meal at a local homeless shelter. Another long term service project is to go around the weekly Farmer's market and gather donations from the farmers for the shelters. The new group has set up adult RE classes on immigration and racial justice. They have organized and alerted congregation members to events happening around town.
They organized a "Standing on the side of love" presence at some of the large demonstrations that dominated Madison last winter. Members have worked with the neighborhood to create a community garden and are starting the process of working with the neighborhood and local high school to create a mural on the churches outside wall focused on community and sustainability.
