First Unitarian Church of Hobart is looking for an Office Manager (half-time). This position is available immediately. The details are as follows:

Accountability – Reports to the minister

Provide basic office functions
Take calls, check and triage messages
Retrieve and triage mail
Word processing including producing the weekly Order of Service, letters and reports
Visitor follow up emails
Order supplies
Routine maintenance and back up of the computers
Maintain the church web calendar

Manage communication within the congregation
Prepare the Upcoming email, contacting members as necessary for info
Answer phone, triage messages
Post routine communication re schedule, events on website, bulletin board and Facebook
Set up and post special announcements, calendar and events on website and Facebook
Collect reports and information from members for the Annual Report. Produce the Annual report
Post and/or file committee reports and board minutes
Alert Caring Committee, others re members in need, in hospital, etc.
Update contact info on members
Remind and follow up with committee chairs and others, when reports and other data is due
Follow up contact with visitors

Ensure that record keeping, reports and required legal documentation is maintained
Manage contributions: contribution counting sheets, loose change, bank deposits, Scrip, PowerChurch including pledge information, Vanco entries.
Make bank deposits and keep records on rent, special collections, fundraiser, discretionary fund
Monitor bank statements and alert bookkeeper as needed, such as a low balance.
Provide finance staff/bookkeeper with needed mail, other communication
Obtain authorization when needed to pay unusual expenditures
Liaison with the paid bookkeeper and provide support for those activities as needed.

Coordinate building use
Handle communications and arrangements with both ongoing renters and special event renters (e.g., weddings)
Coordinate building repairs and maintenance activities as directed by the Buildings and grounds Committee – such as letting workers into the building, facilitating communication with Buildings and grounds members.

Facilitate communication with the broader community
Monitor and respond to email, mail, Facebook and website contacts and post content as requested by committee members.
Post content supplied by members and minister on website, Facebook and other media sites

Education, Competencies

College level education in social services, business management or related field or equivalent experience.
Experience with not-for-profit office management preferred
Experience with working with volunteers
Competence posting on Facebook, websites, Twitter and other social media or willingness to receive training in these skills
Competent in Word, ability to learn applications such as PowerChurch database
Able to work on Sunday mornings, Monday, Friday mornings and two other half weekdays a week
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish working relationships with church members

UU Military Ministry at Great LakesUnitarian Universalist Military Ministry Great Lakess (UUMMGL) seeks an hourly Congregational Administrator. The position reports to the Chair of the UUMMGL Board. Applicants for the Congregational Administrator position must have documented administrative assistant experience and be able to work independently.

UUMMGL conducts weekly worship services for Navy recruits at Great Lakes Naval Recruit Training Command’s Memorial Chapel in Great Lakes, IL (about 40 miles north of downtown Chicago and 60 miles south of downtown Milwaukee). The ministry serves ~550 recruits annually, with weekly attendance ranging ~5-20. The recruits are all young adults, 18-35 years old. The ministry also distributes ~300 copies of Bless All Who Serve: Sources of Hope, Courage and Faith for Military Personnel and Their Families and ~100 copies of Becoming: A Spiritual Guide for Navigating Young Adulthood each year.
