Dear Chalice Lighters,
Thank you for your patience with us this year as we’ve worked to combine three different districts’ Chalice Lighter programs, practices and databases. Things are mostly in place and updated now, with just a few more tweaks to our process. Through your generosity, we’ve helped five congregations across the region with grants for their growth-related projects.
We know that many of you want to continue receiving mail notices and send in your checks three times a year for each of the Chalice Lighter Calls - Fall, Winter and Spring. We will continue to gratefully handle your donations this way. However, if at all possible, we would like to convert the majority of both announcement letters and donations to electronic, since this saves us a lot of money and time. So we would appreciate it if you would sign up to receive our letters and make donations electronically if you haven’t already. http://www.midamericauua.org/programs/chalice-lighters/1679-update-my-chalice-lighter-info
The Spring/Summer 2014 Call:
We are asking for donations to put in a fund to support projects for strengthening Youth and Young Adult Ministry in your congregations. Your Congregational Life staff here in the Region often hears from leaders that they would love to start some project or another to grow their Youth or Young Adult ministries but there is just no money to put behind it. We believe if we had a fund where we could offer small grants of $2,000 or $3,000, we could really help expand and grow these ministries, which would lead to greater integration of teens and young adults into leadership of Unitarian Universalist congregations - as well as growth and retention!
One example of a small grant we’d like to make is to the Chalice Sparx Family Camp that is making its debut this summer. As part of the camp, there will be a Trailblazers program, pairing young adults who are interested in professional religious leadership with professional staff (ministers, religious educators, membership professionals and musicians) throughout the week to learn more about their work. See www.chalicesparx.org for more information.
Other possibilities include mission trip kinds of projects right here in our region – possibly some urban youth and/or young adult camps or environmental awareness camps around the Great Lakes or river systems. Also, we hope to expand our highly successful Youth Midwest Leadership School to reach more teenage leaders.
We would love to hear more ideas that you may have to strengthen these important ministries!
Please contact either Phillip Lund (email@example.com) or Dori Thexton (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your ideas, questions or comments.
Please note – ALL CHECKS MUST be made out to MidAmerica Region.
Please note “Chalice Lighters Spring/Summer 2014 Call” in the memo line and send it to:
MidAmerica Region, 2355 Fairview Avenue #312, Roseville, MN 55113.
We deeply appreciate your generosity in contributing to the MidAmerica Chalice Lighter program. There are several ways you can participate in the Chalice Lighter program, with four suggested levels of donation: $20 Believer / $50 Builder / $100 Benefactor / $250 Beacon. These are amounts that would be donated three times each year (Fall, Winter & Spring Calls) upon receipt of the Call Letter.
If you’d prefer, for tax purposes, to make one donation per year (any amount over the $60 minimum donation for the next three Calls) you can send in your check now, and we will hold the funds and divide them equally among the three Calls.
Thank you again for your generosity!
