Springfield Church Hosting Speaker March 30
The Social Action Committee for the Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Church (ALUUC) will be hosting a speaker event on Saturday, March 30th at 4 pm, in celebration of Cesar Chavez's birthday. This will be a free event open to the public, located at ALUUC, 745 Woodside Rd., Springfield, IL. There will be a donation taken up during the event for the Cesar Chavez Foundation.
Cesar was born March 31, 1927 (Cesar Chavez Day in eight states) and died April 23, 1993. He was an American farm worker, labor leader and civil rights activist. He and Dolores Huerta co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (later known as the United Farm Workers union, UFW). He is also a very well known Latino American and was part of the American Labor Movement.
Ethical Eating at JRUUC
Members of the Peace, Justice and Sustainability Group at James Reeb UUC in Madison WI put on a service focused on Ethical Eating.
A message for all ages showed the children 2 types of lettuce - one conventionally grown in California, the other organically grown locally. After an explanation of the ways each lettuce were grown, the children determined that the more expensive, but locally grown lettuce was the better deal - for the environment, the growers and for the family that would eat it.
