We encourage UU groups and individuals to create historical documentaries on video. Two are available:
Heritage of Heresy: Bisbee and Tuttle on the Universalist Frontier
In 1872, Minnesota's Universalists expelled Rev. Herman Bisbee for teaching heresy and for "unbrotherly conduct" toward a senior colleague, Rev. James. H. Tuttle. Twenty years later, Universalists - including Tuttle - had adopted Bisbee's beliefs.
Full Circle of Life: The Mabel Tainter Memorial Theater
The loss of a beloved daughter prompted wealthy Wisconsinites Andrew and Bertha Tainter to build a Unitarian church and community center served by a charismatic humanist minister. Completed in 1889, the Mabel Tainter Memorial, an architectural gem in Menomonie, Wisconsin, continues today to serve liberal religion and the local community as its founders had intended.
You may watch them on our YouTube channel.
A teacher’s guide (PDF, 272KB) for both videos is also available:
